Why does my CTA stop say No prediction available?

“No prediction available” on a CTA tracker can occur for various reasons, including.

Why does my CTA stop say “No prediction available”?

  • Trains haven’t left the terminal: Predictions are only available once a train is actively being tracked in service, typically after it has departed from a terminal station.
  • Anticipated inaccurate predictions: The CTA may withhold predictions if they anticipate the information will be inaccurate due to events like major track work, reroutes, or service disruptions. In these cases, it’s best to check CTA’s System Status & Alerts for service impacting alerts.
  • Technological limitations or equipment issues: Poor cellular connections, malfunctioning GPS units, or other technological issues can prevent the tracker from receiving or displaying real-time information.
  • Bus Tracker’s 30-minute window: If you’re checking a bus tracker and the bus is more than 30 minutes away, it might not be displayed. The CTA Bus Tracker is designed to provide predictions within a 30-minute window due to the difficulty in accurately predicting travel times further out.
  • Bus reroutes: If a bus is temporarily rerouted off its usual path, the Bus Tracker might not be able to precisely predict when or where it will resume its normal route, causing it to disappear from the tracker temporarily.

If you see “No prediction available” and know service is running, it’s possible a temporary error is occurring, and refreshing your view might resolve the issue.
