Yes, Metra provides several ways to receive real-time alerts for delays and service disruptions.
Can I get real-time alerts for Metra delays?
Email alerts: You can sign up for Metra email alerts to receive notifications of significant delays on your specific line(s). You can even customize the time window during which you want to receive these alerts. To sign up, visit metrarail.com/user and create a new account.
Social media: Each of Metra’s 11 rail lines has a dedicated Twitter handle that provides up-to-the-minute status updates on train schedules and service disruptions. For instance, you can find updates for the Milwaukee District North line on @metraMDN and the Union Pacific North line on @metraUPN.
Metra website and Train Tracker: Updates on service disruptions are posted on the Metra website (metra.com) under the Service Alerts section. You can also use the Metra Train Tracker feature (metratracker.com) to check the real-time status and location of your train. You can also find the Train Tracker in the Ventra app.
Onboard and platform announcements: During service disruptions, updates are also provided through announcements on board the train and on the platform at stations.
While Metra strives to provide accurate and timely information, there may be instances where crew members are unable to provide frequent updates while they are handling a situation outside the train. In such cases, the Train Reporting and Customer Communications (TRACC) Center works to communicate updates to passengers via email, website alerts, and Twitter.
