Based on a CMAP ITS Architecture document, approximately 800 cameras have been installed in and around downtown Metra stations, including 140 at locations like Ogilvie, Randolph, and LaSalle Street stations. Additionally, roughly 1200 cameras have been installed at Metra Electric line platforms and stations.

Metra has also been installing cameras inside its passenger railcars. In 2019, they approved a $15.5 million contract to install surveillance cameras in at least 400 railcars across the system. These cameras are located in vestibules and passenger areas, with nine planned per railcar. The cameras are connected to an onboard DVR system that records and stores the video.
