If you’ve left your phone or bag on a Metra train, here’s what you should do.

1. Contact Metra’s Lost and Found

  • Metra encourages passengers to visit or call the Lost and Found office at the downtown terminal serving the line you were on.
  • Contact information for the downtown terminals:
    • Union Station: 312-322-4269 (Window 10 at Union Station)
    • Ogilvie Transportation Center: 312-322-1234
    • LaSalle Street Station: 312-322-6509
    • Millennium Station: 312-322-7819 

2. Report the lost item

  • Provide detailed information about your lost item, such as a description (color, brand, distinguishing features), your date of travel, and the stations you departed from and arrived at. 

3. Be patient

  • It can take some time for lost items to be processed and reach the Lost and Found offices. Metra usually quotes 2-3 business days for return calls regarding lost items.
  • It’s best to call the next day to confirm if your item has been found. 

4. If you have an emergency or safety concerns

  • For urgent safety or security concerns, contact Metra Police by calling 911 or 312-322-2800, or use the Metra COPS app.
  • For non-emergency railroad safety matters, you can call 312-322-6900 ext. 7233 or email safetyreporting@metrarr.com.

  • Metra and its service providers are not responsible for articles left on trains or at stations.
  • Items found on CTA vehicles or at CTA rail stations are sent to the bus garages or rail terminals associated with specific bus routes, rail lines or stations. At no time does the CTA assume responsibility for lost items, and items are kept for two weeks after being found.
